Faith

Faith

Today is a Snow Day!
Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

On this day, I am reminded to know what I believe and why.
Faith is personal.

Faith is a noun.
Definition:
1. Complete trust in someone or something
2. Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion

Faith in God has been at the very core of my being from my very earliest memory.

Faith is a journey.

I was baptized (immersed) at the age of 9 on December 3, 1972. I was 3,355 days into this adventure of life.

I have been a baptized believer, Christian, for 16,479 days.

Today, I am on my 19,834th day of this adventure called life.
This adventure for me is more than halfway over ~ if I am blessed (or as my parents would have said, if the Lord wills).

My faith is still being tested.
My faith is still being sharpened.
My faith is still growing deeper.
My faith is still my stronghold -- in this adventure called life.

My parents taught me about faith.
My parents taught me to have my own faith.

I have taught my sons about faith.
I have also taught my sons to have their own faith.

God is my source of strength.
Christ is my measuring stick.
The Bible is my guidebook.
Satan is real.

The Bible tells me to study the scriptures so I can have a better understanding.
The Bible tells me to search the scriptures so I know that what I am being taught is correct.

Often, I stumble due to my own choices.
Often, I am not the example to others I should be.

I have to keep studying and searching the scriptures.
I have to keep my eyes and heart focused on Christ.

Today, I am reminded to intentionally become closer to God so I can hear His voice.
I am reminded time with God calms my soul.

Today, my two favorite verses are once again my focus:

*Isaiah 30:21:
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

*Psalm 46:10:
Be still and know that I am God.

Today, I am spending time in prayer.
Today, I have cried tears.
Today, I am reminded of this quote:
“Perhaps our eyes need to be washed by our tears once in a while so that we can see life with a clearer view again.”

I will keep studying.
I will keep searching the scriptures.
I will keep my eyes and heart focused on Christ.
I will stumble again.
I will work to be a better example.

Today, I am thankful for this day of reflection.

God’s blessings go far beyond anything I can ever imagine.

It's 2026! Happy Day 3 of the New Year! Wow! Today is already the 3rd day of a new year. These years seem to be arriving much faster than before. I know it seems like everyone says that, but time does really fly. I looked over my past blog posts and realized very quickly I have only done one a year for the last few years. There are many reasons why. I am sure life hit some bumps, but I am also positive life got fuller and richer. Every year at this time, I am reminded of two pieces of advice given to me when I was a newlywed living in West Virginia and again when I was a young mom living in central Indiana. Both women were strong mentors to me. These women were amazing Christian examples, but also just two dear friends -- even though they were decades older than me. They shared their life experiences with me (not in a preachy way) just in everyday conversations. Their advice helped me to to choose "what was better." (Like Jesus reminded Martha to do.) As a newlywed, I was...

2024 Year in Review

2024 was an amazing year! [The following blog post was simply written for me] After making it through the longest stretch of the school year: aka Q3, we enjoyed a trip to the East Coast to see our eldest prince and his family over Spring Break. Always such a wonderful time being with them and seeing what life is like for them there. While we were there, we went into "the city" a couple of times to enjoy some tourist attractions. We ate at some of our favorite restaurants. And, we walked the boardwalk along the Long Island Sound. Our first adventure took us to the American Museum of Natural History. It was pouring down the rain that day. The line was super long. Everyone handled the weather like champs and we eventually made our way inside to explore more than 40 halls full of interesting exhibits on four floors. The museum was built in 1869 and contains exhibits for science, nature, and history. And, if I am being honest, many areas felt like we were still in 1869 -- and that...

Moments

Today, my sweet grandson experienced his first snowfall. By “experienced,” I mean he actually watched the snow fall through the window; noticed something new was happening outside; and showed excitement and wonderment as he saw the ground turning all white. He was filled with glee as he watched his puppy dog enjoy the snow for the first time. His sweet mommy allowed him to go outside and experience it first-hand. He was able to walk around in it, feel it on his face, and reach for the flakes, as they fell. I got to “experience” the above moments via technology: videos and photos. These moments warmed my heart. His beautiful blue eyes lit up as he watched the snow, felt it on his face, and tried to touch the flakes with his small mittened-hand. I often forget how wonderful life is through the eyes of a small child. Pure happiness! Life can drain me of my happiness as soon as I open my eyes each day. I awake to an alarm at too-early o’clock every day. My mind...
